Dramatherapy
Sesame dramatherapy is a safe, non-judgemental and non-confrontational way of exploring and reflecting on experiences and feelings, there is no right or wrong and sessions are confidential.
No prior experience of drama is necessary as dramatherapy is not about being good at drama, but about making contact with ourselves and with others.
Creativity is a powerful source of change and growth, allowing each individual space for their own journey.
Dramatherapy can be helpful for a wide range of needs from mental health difficulties and special needs, to personal development and confidence building (please see the blue sub-headings above). The Sesame therapist is trained to focus on individual needs, therefore sessions vary widely in their content and pace. A Sesame session can include some or all of the following:
-
Storytelling and enactment
-
Music and movement
-
Drawing and craft
-
Improvisation and role-plays
-
Exploration of images and objects
-
Play, drama games and other imaginative activities
-
Puppetry and masks
-
Poetry
- Verbal reflection
The British Association of Dramatherapists (BADth) defines dramatherapy as:
"the intentional use of healing aspects of drama and theatre as the therapeutic process. It is a method of working and playing that uses action methods to facilitate creativity, imagination, learning, insight and growth".
